“The Exhaustion Funnel”

Everything we do falls into one of 3 categories:

👉 It nourishes us (exercise, an exciting project etc)
👉 It depletes us (late night calls, 24×7 emails etc)
👉 It’s neutral (running errands, driving kids to school etc)

When we have too much on our plate, the category most likely to give first is … the things that nourish us.

While necessary sometimes in the short term, if we allow the cycle to continue in the long run, we are left with very little that nourishes us.

And that is a one-way road to exhaustion.

Success is not about all-out effort.
Success is about balance.
And balance is not something we find – it’s something we create.

It requires that we mindfully say “No” to an activity that depletes us.
And that would typically mean saying “No” to a stakeholder.
And often, to ourselves.

What must you say “No” to this week, to have the balance you seek?

Have a great week ahead.
